HBO and GRRM, this one was done just for fun. Please don’t sue!

Taken with my t2i and Orion ED80 telescope
My first photo of a deep space object.
Taken from Afton Prairie, near DeKalb, IL. Andromeda is the closest galaxy to the Milky Way, and about the same size. One day, it will collide with it, and our galaxies will combine into one.
When Edwin Hubble discovered it in 1925, we learned that our own galaxy was only one of hundreds of billions.
I painted this one in Summer of 2012, as a gift to my new Sicilian parents in law.

Taken last year from Chicago, IL. This was the first photo with my brand new telescope and camera adapter, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Taken from Afton Prairie outside DeKalb, Illinois with my t2i and Orion ED80 telescope.
Visible overhead in the south, during winter and early spring months, in the sword of the Orion constellation.
12 light years across, 1,344 light years distant from us. This cloud of gas is a stellar nursery, and the brightness in the nebula is of new stars being born.
Our sun started in a place like this, and eventually drifted away to grow up in a remote arm of the galaxy, fostering the only planet we know of so far to contain life.
